Our Mission

The mission of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), Washington Metropolitan Area Alumni Chapter is to facilitate the implementation of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore National Alumni Association’s (NAA) Constitution, to assist in the recruitment of new students, provide support to enrolled UMES students at all levels, programs, and endowments of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Washington, DC metropolitan area

The Washington Metropolitan Area Alumni Chapter (WMAA) has a long history of supporting the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The WMAA Chapter raises funds for student scholarships, hosts annual recruitment events, performs community service projects mainly in Prince George’s County and keeps alumni in the Washington DC metropolitan area engaged and active with our alma mater.  Our chapter motto is “Stay Connected”.

The WMAA Chapter holds monthly meetings at 7:00 PM (EST)  on the first Thursday of the month. Meetings are normally held at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Center in Landover Maryland. Throughout the pandemic, the chapter has been meeting via Zoom. The chapter does not meet during the summer months (June, July, and August).

The WMAA Chapter membership ranges from recent UMES graduates to alumni who graduated from the former Maryland State College in the 1950s. The diversity of graduates and their college experiences is what makes the WMAA chapter special.

Our Students

There continues to be an effort to bridge the gap between past, present, and future students and to develop an organization that promotes and represents the diversity of the UMES alumni body.
